El Chalten is one of the best destination for travelers in Argentina.
This tiny town might seem unremarkable at first, but it’s packed with amazing treks and sights. You could easily spend two weeks or more exploring everything it has to offer.
most travellers want to see the highlight and move on so I would wirte all of the attractions and treks I think worth noting and you’ll choose which you would love to see before moving on to your next destination
Fitz roy
If you came to El Chalten is most likely becuase you have heard of the Fitz Roy
Fitz Roy, also known as Cerro Fitz Roy, is a stunning peak in Patagonia’s Los Glaciares National Park, With its dramatic granite spires reaching 3,405 meters , it is a favorite among adventurers and photographers.
Though many say they’re here to trek Fitz Roy, the most popular hike is actually the Laguna de los Tres trek. This trail ends at the base of Mount Fitz Roy, offering an exquisite view of the mountain and the beautiful Laguna de los Tres..
Basic information about the Laguna de los tres trek
- Distance: 22 kilometers return
- Elevation Gain: 1,050 meters
- Duration: 7 – 10 hours return
- Difficulty: Moderate / Hard
It’s an amazing trek that even beginner trekkers can manage
the climb is a little steep but not very long.
you can actually make it one day but most people choose to make it a two days trip
firstly of all it’s easier but mostly because they want to see the sunrise at the top .
I also did it like that, it’s a lot of fun and the view is worth it but if you are not so keen about sunrises and you are more experiences you
can actually make it in one go.

Laguna Torre Trek
The second trek I recommand is Laguna Torre
you would be suprised how many tourists come to El Chalten to see the Fitz Roy who haven’t heard or bothered to check this lagoon
If you ask me it’s as beautiful as the lagoon at de los tres trek.
Basic information about the Laguna Torre Trek
- Distance: 18 km (round trip) to Laguna Torre, with an additional 4 km if you include the Mirador Maestri viewpoint.
- Elevation Gain: 500m
- Duration: 6-8 hours round trip.
- Difficulty: Moderate
This trek is a lot easiar than the Laguna de los Tres because its a mostly flat so even failies with kids can make that climb.
Laguna Torre is a stunning glacial lake framed by the iconic peak of Cerro Torre, offering a breathtaking destination for hikers
Upon reaching the lagoon, the view of icebergs floating with the towering Cerro Torre in the background is truly incredible. If you’re up for a bit more adventure, you can hike an extra two kilometers to Mirador Maestri for even better views of Glacier Torre.

Chorillo Del Salto
Chorillo del Salto is a charming little waterfall just a short and easy hike from El Chaltén, perfect for a relaxed day out in Patagonia. The trail is a gentle adn goes through scenic forests and meadows, leading you to a beautiful waterfall splashing into a clear pool. It’s an ideal spot for a picnic or a refreshing splash on a warm day. Plus, the hike is family-friendly

Rafting in the De Las Vueltas River Canyon
Rio de Las Vueltas is the main river that runs alongside El Chalten.
A significant portion of the waters of the Río de las Vueltas originates from the melting glaciers in the northern area of Los Glaciares National Park
the scenery through the rafting course is amazing, rafting while enjoying the stunning views of mount Fitz Roy
I enjoyed it and the views were amazing but the rafting itself was kind of mild. I enjoyed the scenery besides a little repid action at the beginning it’s a very easy ride so if you are looking for a more intense experience I wouldn’t recommand it.
If you are looking for a more intense rafting experience I would recommand Río Manso.
Laguna Capri
aguna Capri is a picturesque lake located within Los Glaciares National Park, just a short hike from El Chaltén
the trek is a great alternative for those who cannot managa the steep climbs of the Laguna de los tres hike.
The trek Offers stunning views of Mount Fitz Roy and the surrounding mountains.
There is aslo a free campsite at Laguna Capri, ideal for those looking to extend their stay and enjoy sunrise or sunset over the lake.

Time needed: 3.5-4 hours
Difficulty: Easy
La Cerveceria
This one is my favourite spot after a day of trekking, La Cerveceria
One of my favourites things in the whole world is craft beer and La Cerveceria has a wonderful veriaty of craft beers on tap that they make.
My favourite dish there is the Locro and my favourite beer is the amber one.
